General comments:
Extremely local resident.

Although occasionally, if rarely, found as a wanderer in the "wrong" habitat on balmy summer nights, under normal circumstances, the Dingy Shell is not noted for moving great distances and so unless a trap is positioned within alder carr or similar habitat the moth is unlikely to be recorded. Our river valleys support our core population, but damp alder woodland is a scarce commodity in our area and the moth is potentially Threatened.
