General comments:
Widespread resident.

The Shears is occasionally recorded at flowers in afternoon sunshine, though it more normally flies at night. Open, herb-rich grasslands seem to be the favoured habitat and it seems to matter little if these are acidic, neutral or basic.

Recorded in 33 (80%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1887.
Last Recorded in 2024.
