General comments:
Widespread resident.

The Dark Arches often attends light traps in large number and there can surely be no site list that does not include this species. The black form, ab. aethiops Tutt, which affected about one third of east London examples when I lived there during the early 1980s, appears to be vanishingly rare in Hertfordshire, though doubtless some examples go unreported.
