General comments:
Widespread but very local resident.

Damp habitats feature prominently at or near many of the known sites for this species, though not exclusively so perhaps suggesting that the adult moths can disperse some distance away from their natal area. The melanic ab. moerens Staudinger, illustrated but not named in Skinner (1998), was recorded at Totteridge in 1975 and 1976, both as single examples, by Ian Lorimer.

Recorded in 32 (78%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1892.
Last Recorded in 2023.
