General comments:
Extremely local and uncommon.

There has been past confusion over the use of the names oblongana, sellana and others for both the present species and for Endothenia marginana. This has been discussed by me in "The Moths of Hertfordshire," (2008), in which I accepted only a single report relating to the current oblongana - from Harpenden in 1926. All remaining map dots on this present web site are recent and certainly relate to oblongana as here discussed.

The restriction to the north-east reflects the moth's preference for a chalky substrate. Our single Middlesex record is from the Ruislip area in 1959, and this species is presumed lost from the Middlesex fauna.
