Local but numerically common.

Until recently regarded as a colour form of E. nisella and for that reason seriously under-recorded. Historic records are from the Sandridge area (Griffith, 1884), Hitchin area (Foster, 1916), Harpenden, early 1930s (C. B. Williams) and Broxbourne, 1934 (in Foster, 1937). All modern records are mapped.
