Epinotia maculana

(Fabricius, 1775)1152 / 49.232

General comments:
Extremely local resident.

Previously recorded from the Sandridge area in 1884 and from Bricket Wood in 1889, we can now add the Broxbourne Woods NNR, where a small population exists in associated with Aspen (Populus tremula) on which the caterpillars feed; actinic light traps placed at the base of Aspen trees might prove more productive for this species than mv light traps in a more general location. For Middlesex, we have an old record from Northwood in 1959 but nothing since.

Recorded in 4 (10%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1889.
Last Recorded in 2017.
