Anania crocealis

(Hübner, 1796)1385 / 63.022
=Ebulea crocealis

General comments:
Vagrant & perhaps an extremely local resident.

Recorded sites are widely-spaced and the level of past light trapping in suitable localities suggests that the moth either was absent or persisted at extremely low density prior to the recent spate of reports. It may be on the increase? Many records relate to chalky habitats, but there are several reports from marshy ground with an abundance of fleabane plants. Records from places like Wembley, however, surely relate to wanderers. The latest report is from Perivale Wood, Middlesex on 29th June 2024.

Recorded in 14 (34%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1834.
Last Recorded in 2022.
