Patania ruralis

(Scopoli, 1763)1405 / 63.038
=Pleuroptya ruralis

General comments:
Widespread / ubiquitous resident.

Much more widely known under the name of Pleuroptya ruralis, which we are now told is incorrect, there can be few places that do not support this abundant moth. Our only blank patch is the City of London and east to the Isle of Dogs; were Stinging nettles to be popular in window boxes the moth would doubtless be in that area also.

Recorded in 35 (85%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1890.
Last Recorded in 2024.
