Ortholepis betulae

(Goeze, 1778)1450 / 62.011
=Metriostola betulae

General comments
Overlooked resident, probably extremely local and rare.

This species, which frequents birches growing on sandy heaths, was thought to have been lost, since our last record from Parliament Hill (next to Hampstead Heath) in 1989. However, as a totally unexpected event, Mark Sterling took one at light in his garden in St Albans in 2021. This species should be searched for in both counties.

Recorded in 5 (12%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1890.
Last Recorded in 2021.
