Phycita roborella

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)1452 / 62.029

General comments:
Widespread and common.

Often mistaken for other species, though males can sometimes be recognised by the presence of a patch of reflective scales on the side of the abdomen just below and forward of the wing bases. Males have a patch of jet black anal scales which are very hard to see unless dissecting the genitalia - at which point they usually detach and become obvious. The adult is regular in garden light traps.

Recorded in 34 (83%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1885.
Last Recorded in 2023.
