General comments
Extremely local resident; seldom abundant.

The separation of Delplanqueia inscriptella into two species, the true dilutella and the segregate taxon inscriptella, is very recent, Though doubtless justified, the physical separation of some captured examples can present great problems. Examination of the genitalia is always required; however, some material shows a level of overlap between the two.

Almost all Herts and Middlesex examples are likely to be referable to insriptella. However, a very few are closer to dilutella. These are mapped here but voucher specimens will need re-visiting when appropriate technologies are developed. There is a known association with Thyme Thymus in chalk grassland and the caterpillars might be myrmecophilous (both species).
