Euzopherodes vapidella

(Mann, 1857)1469b / 62.0505

General comments:
Presumed immigrant.

An adult male was taken at actinic light in Bishops Stortford Cemetery, Hertfordshire, overnight on 19 June 2021, by Ben Sale (see Sale & Smith, 2021). This is the first British record of this largely Mediterranean European species, which is believed to be associated with Ceratonia siliqua L., the Carob Tree.

This species has recently been examined by French entomologists who have recently (Nel et al, 2021) separated it into two taxa – vapidella sensu stricto and vapidelloides. The validity of this split may be challenged, but in any event does not affect the present specimen which is clearly referable to vapidella.
