General comments:
Widespread, partially synanthropic, resident.

In the literature, this species is variously listed as E. parasitella Staudinger, 1859 or as E. unicolorella Staudinger, 1881. It is probably the only Ephestia species that can survive out-of-doors in our area. Nevertheless, correct separation from both Ephestia elutella and Vitula biviella usually requires genitalia dissection, though candidate moths with a distinct reddish tint on the rear of the forewing will inevitably be this species.
