Vitula biviella

(Zeller, 1848)1478b / 62.061

General comments:
Extremely local resident. Expanding.

Added to the British list from Kent as recently as 1997 (Clancy and Parsons, 1999), it was completely unknown in our two counties prior to 2004, when it was caught at Bishops Stortford. It cannot usually be separated from Ephestia elutella or Ephestia parasitella without examination of the genitalia (though candidates may be selected by eye if fresh); accordingly, it is possibly more widespread in Hertfordshire than is currently realised.

Recorded in 13 (32%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 2004.
Last Recorded in 2023.
