The map shows clearly the affiliation of this species with the chalky ground on northern and north-western Hertfordshire. The need to dissect most adult examples of this species to obtain an accurate identification has probably resulted in some under-recording. Too few people actively engage in the searching for early stages of plume moths in Hertfordshire. However, the moth seems genuinely rare and comparison of current records with past observations are strongly indicative of a decline.
