Oidaematophorus lithodactyla

(Treitschke, 1833)1523 / 45.037

General comments
Extremely local resident. Probably under-recorded.

This moth is listed for the Sandridge area (Griffith, 1884) and from Waltham Cross in 1905 (Gibbs, 1906). In reporting the latter, Gibbs noted that these were the only two Hertfordshire records to that date. Since then, Raymond Uffen noted it at Mardley Heath during 1990, with adults emerging from larvae on a garden variety of Inula and also taken in his garden light trap on 26th June. He has made finds since then on the bank in Heath Road, but these are undated. Raymond also found larvae along Ermine Street at Box Wood on 17th August 2001 and I caught an adult at light on Oughtonhead Common on 12th July 2003. These all probably represent resident populations. Remaining mapped sightings relate to random captures in light traps.

There are two Middlesex records, one from the extreme south of the county, the other from the Barnet area.

Recorded in 11 (27%) of 41 10k Squares.
