Emmelina monodactyla

(Linnaeus, 1758)1524 / 45.044

General comments:
Ubiquitous species. Very common.

Recently, an additional plume moth, Emmelina argoteles (Meyrick) was discovered in Britain at Wicken Fen (Higgott, 2006). Unfortunately, it is impossible to separate this from our Common Brown Plume moth by any means other than dissection of the genital apparatus. The European literature suggests, however, that Emmelina argoteles might be restricted to marshy habitats; wetland captures should be double-checked.
