Micropterix mansuetella

Zeller, 18442 / 1.002

Hertfordshire Notes:
Our older records are from the Sandridge area prior to 1890 (A. F. Griffith) and from Cheshunt prior to 1901 (W. C. Boyd). The apparent scarcity of this species today is surprising, though it seems to prefer wet woodland, a habitat that is scarce in Hertfordshire, in which there are plenty of sedges upon which the females sit, feeding on the pollen and are easily captured for identification. Re-found at Broxbourne Wood NNR, 1 male, 12 June 2017, Graeme J. Smith, after a gap of 117 years. and then at Basils Wood, Bramfield, 24th May 2020 (Trevor Brownsell).
