Trichophaga tapetzella

(Linnaeus, 1758)234 / 12.025

Hertfordshire Notes:
Extinct or overlooked. There are only four Hertfordshire records of this formerly abundant pest species, which declined nationally soon after the Second World War and which is now very scarce everywhere in Britain. These are from Sandridge (Griffith, 1890), Cheshunt (Boyd, 1901) and Tring (hotel stables) in 1912.

Middlesex Notes:
Extinct or overlooked. Mapped for Middlesex in volume 2 of Moths and butterflies of Great Britain and Ireland without any supporting data. A report from the Natural History Museum Wildlife Garden in 2016 is surprising; there are no subsequent reports

Usually a synanthropic species, though larvae have been reared from owl pellets in Yorkshire.

Retained Specimen / Photograph will be Required.

Recorded in 6 (15%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1885.
Last Recorded in 2016.
