Tineola bisselliella

(Hummel, 1823)236 / 12.026

General comments:
Widespread. Increasing. A synanthropic pest species that is possibly unable to thrive out of doors. Historically rare in both counties it is un-recorded in the first half of the twentieth century. A record from Watford in 1958 is not supported by a voucher specimen and is regarded as incorrect. Then, from 2002 onward, it has undergone a resurgence. This is possibly a consequence of a renewed popularity of natural products over artificial fibres in the manufacture of clothes, carpets and other items.

Recorded in 23 (56%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1885.
Last Recorded in 2024.
