Bedellia somnulentella

(Zeller, 1847)264 / 24.001

Hertfordshire Notes:
Widespread and common. The larvae make characteristic 'windows' in bindweed leaves.
Although recorded from Cheshunt prior to 1901 (Boyd) there are no more records until Raymond Uffen found it at Welwyn in October 1996 and at Oughtonhead Common in 1998. Although doubtless under-recorded, it was probably scarce until 2003 when the larval mines, with their accompanying frass-adorned silk nets below the leaves, suddenly became common in a number of localities in south-east England. It suddenly appeared at many new locations during 2011 and is now considered widespread and not unexpected wherever Greater Bindweed is found.

Recorded in 27 (66%) of 41 10k Squares.
