Caloptilia betulicola

(Hering, 1927)283 / 15.005

Hertfordshire Notes: Not recorded in the county until 1973, when an adult was taken at light on the Ashridge Estate on 7th March. Intensive collection of leaf mines in the years since 1999 appear to indicate that at the present time the moth is widespread, though rather local, wherever birch trees grow. The absence from the north-east section and the north-west border is likely to be largely genuine.

Middlesex Notes: Local, but likely to be distributed wherever birches grow.

Determination by Genitalia Examination Required

Mine: Either the leaf or a good photograph required
