Acrocercops brongniardella

(Fabricius, 1798)313 / 15.019

General comments:
Widespread and in most years numerically common, though there are occasional years when the mines are hard to find. The larval mines are fairly distinctive, though they may be confused by the inexperienced with those of the sawfly Profenusa pygmaea, which is widespread and common in our area. The moth is also said to mine evergreen oaks, which the sawfly does not do, but we have no records on that host plant for the two counties.
