Hertfordshire Notes:
Elsewhere, the caterpillar sometimes mines Whitebeam and Bird-cherry, but in Hertfordshire and Middlesex we have only found it on Rowan. It is often present in great numbers, with almost every leaflet on a tree being mined, but mined trees themselves seem particularly local and in the north of Hertfordshire it is decidedly uncommon. Readers will hopefully take this as a challenge! Though most mines on Rowan will be this species, at least in Hertfordshire, this tree is also mined by P. mespillella and P. lantanella, so adults must be reared to confirm identifications. A good proportion of the Middlesex records are of adults in light traps.
