General notes:
This is the only Phyllonorycter on Blackthorn in Britain and the larval mine is usually easy to distinguish from the mines of both Parornix finitimella and Parornix torquillella, which also mine the underside of the leaves, because the lower epidermis of the leaf remains green (with both Parornix it turns brown). Phyllonorycter species also pupate within the mine, whilst the larvae of the other two species leave the mine and feed in a folded leaf in later instars.

Local but not uncommon in some years. Most records relate to adults in light traps; larval mines should be reared through to obtain adults for correct naming.
