Hertfordshire Notes: Where we have been able to identify the species of birch tree affected it has always been Silver Birch, but there is no reason to suppose that the caterpillar may not also make its distinctive mines on Downy Birch or even the hybrid. However, every time we have looked on alien species of Betula the mine has been absent.

Middlesex Notes: On birches Betula. Widespread but never numerically common. Populations seem to fluctuate over the years and in some years no larval mines are evident whilst in others they may be abundant.
