General comments:
Local, though where mines are found there are often many. The distribution will be limited by the availability of alder trees. The upper surface mines of P. stettinensis on leaves of alders can be confused with those of the sawflies Heterarthrus vagans and Fenusa dohrnii, both of which are common in the south-east.
