Ectoedemia quinquella

(Bedell, 1848)36 / 4.087

Hertfordshire Notes:
Our first record dates from October 2001 at Gilston, when the distinctive, highly contorted mines were found on a veteran oak tree on the verge of a country lane near to Golden Grove. Adults were reared. At that time, the moth appeared more widespread in Bedfordshire and so the current spread of records in northern Hertfordshire may well be evidence of a southwards range expansion. The bulk of records are from 2010 onwards.

Middlesex Notes:
Adults at light in Buckingham Palace garden during 2006 were unexpected but probably support the idea of a southern range expansion. The conclusion has to be that this species is grossly under-recorded.
