Phyllonorycter trifasciella

General comments:
The mines of this species usually cause extreme twisting of the affected leaf so that they are at once separable from those made by Phyllonorycter emberizaepenella. The moth appears to undergo considerable swings in abundance. It was plentiful in my garden at Bishops Stortford in 1992, mining almost every leaf of my single Himalayan Honeysuckle bush. The next year it was less numerous and by 1995 it was absent and did not reappear until 2000, when it was in small number. The bush died the following winter and was removed so no further observation was possible, but root suckers revived it again by about 2010. However, the moth has not returned in the period 2010 to 2023.
