General comments:
We have a single undated, historic record of this species from the Cheshunt area of Hertfordshire (Boyd, 1901) and a single report from Middlesex where one was noted by Mr Sich in 1920 (a period in time when there was still some interesting semi-natural habitat in that part of West London).

Given its wide current distribution in the south-east of England it seems improbable that it is no longer with us. The adult is very similar to the apparently common G. simpliciella and the possibility exists that the present species is misidentified as this. Comparative differences given in the text of volume 2 of Moths and Butterflies of Great Britain and Ireland are valid but not very well reflected in the illustrations. The genitalia of both are drawn by Pierce & Metcalfe (1935) in which simpliciella is listed under the name fischeriella and both species are featured on the moth dissection web site.
