Yponomeuta padella

(Linnaeus, 1758)425 / 16.002

General comments:
The three taxa Yponomeuta padella, Y, cagnagella and Y. malinellus are problematic. They are superficially similar in terms of appearance and the genitalia do not display any significant differences. Many taxonomists consider that all three are just different "ecotypes" of the same single species (each with a different foodplant). This may be the case, but it makes sense to separate the three, where this is possible ... combining them later is no problem, but trying to split them up later if they are just lumped as one now would be impossible.

Separation is usually performed as follows:

Forewing including terminal cilia pure white = cagnagela.
Forewing whitish to the tip, but terminal cilia light grey = malinellus.
Forewing grey or whitish with the tip concolorous with the grey terminal cilia = padella.

All three taxa are widespread and common in our two counties.
