Ocnerostoma piniariella

(Zeller, 1847)444 / 16.023

General comments:
For many years this species and Ocnerostoma friesei, were confused and so the 1890 record from Symonds Hyde (Griffith) must be regarded with a degree of caution; our first record thus becomes that made in my garden mv trap in Bishops Stortford on 29th June 2001. The trap is in direct sight of mature Scots Pine trees. One adult female in a light trap in the Hornsey area, named by genitalia dissection, provides the only Middlesex record of this Nationally Scarce species.
