Ypsolopha nemorella

(Linnaeus, 1758)452 / 17.002

General comments:
Three larvae collected by myself and Marcel Ashby at Balls Wood, Hertfordshire on 3rd May 2003 produced two adults and one Microgaster sp. parasite (Braconidae: Microgastrinae). This appears to be the first known record of a Microgaster species parasitising Ypsolopha: the identification was performed by Mark Shaw at the National Museums of Scotland.

Hertfordshire Notes:
Local and scarce. Associated with Honeysuckle Lonicera periclymenum in older woodlands, preferring calcareous soils, though not restricted to this geology.

Middlesex Notes:
Local. Noted at Stanmore common and the Ruislip area only in the late 1950s.

Recorded in 11 (27%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1954.
Last Recorded in 2022.
