Ypsolopha lucella

(Fabricius, 1775)457 / 17.007

General comments:
There are just two records of this species in Hertfordshire, Griffith recorded it from the Sandridge area in his list published in 1890 and J. C. F. Fryer collected it at Bricket Wood in 1929. It was recorded just a few hundred metres over the border into Middlesex in Rachel Terry's garden at Barnet during 2003 and so may lurk undetected within that county? It was in fact mapped for Middlesex in volume 3 of Moths and Butterflies of Great Britain and Ireland (Harley Books), but without any supporting data. The larvae are associated with oak. Adults may be confused with those of Ypsolopha alpella by the inexperienced.

Recorded in 4 (10%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1890.
Last Recorded in 2003.
