Coleophora betulella

(Heinemann, 1876)536 / 37.053

General comments:
All of the Coleophora species in our area are under-recorded; naming most requires either finding the larvae or dissecting the genitalia of the adults (or both!). For this reason, notes made here are deliberately short, but will be updated on a species by species basis as information surfaces.

Widespread and common. On birches. The lack of white tips to the costal cilia separate this species from the otherwise identical Coleophora ibipennella. The larvae, of course, are on different foodplants.

Determination by Genitalia Examination Required

Recorded in 12 (29%) of 41 10k Squares.
