Coleophora lassella

Staudinger, 1859552 / 37.077

General comments:
All of the Coleophora species in our area are under-recorded; naming most requires either finding the larvae or dissecting the genitalia of the adults (or both!). For this reason, notes made here are deliberately short, but will be updated on a species by species basis as information surfaces.

Vagrant? On Toad Rush. Unlike the vast majority of species, this one is more frequently encountered in Middlesex than in Hertfordshire. In the latter county it was unknown until an adult was light trapped at Bengeo, Hertford by Andrew Wood on 28th July 2020. All records relate to adults which may be wanderers from the more expected sub-maritime coastal zone of southern Britain, though the possibility of establishment should not be overlooked and is not without precedent.
