Diurnea lipsiella

(Hübner, 1796)664 / 29.002
=Diurnea phryganella

General comments:
Extremely local, but perhaps under-recorded.
This is the autumn counterpart of Diurnea fagella, but the records indicate that it is far less frequent and always in low numbers. It appears likely to be confined to woodlands with mature oak trees and is usually absent from garden moth trap lists. This fact may be significant: Most people tend to continue garden trapping through the October/November flight period, but trips out to woodlands and other areas tend to be less frequent as the air temperature drops. This bias is unlikely to encourage detection of the moth.

Recorded in 13 (32%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1888.
Last Recorded in 2023.
