Apodia martinii

Petry, 1911730 / 35.060
=Apodia bifractella (Duponchel, [1843])

General comments:
Extremely local resident, probably overlooked.
Damp meadows and saltmarshes are the preferred habitat, where the larva feeds in the flower heads of Inula conyzae and Pulicaria dysenterica - occasionally on Aster tripolium.
Our only breeding record is of adults reared by myself from dead flower heads of Ploughman's Spikenard collected at Westland Green, Hertfordshire on 1st November 2001. All other mapped records are of adults. The species should be looked for in Middlesex, at ruderal sites where the foodplants are established, as the apparent absence from this county is surely artificial?

Recorded in 12 (29%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1890.
Last Recorded in 2023.
