Exoteleia dodecella

(Linnaeus, 1758)760 / 35.159

General comments:
Widespread and common.
The larvae first feed by mining a needle of Scots Pine Pinus sylvestris. It over-winters in the mine, making it easy to collect for rearing. In March, it leaves the mine and feeds between spun needles. Changes in climate might affect the timing of the switch, so those attempting to rear the moth should provide fresh needles from February onwards!

Recorded in 18 (44%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1890.
Last Recorded in 2023.
