Mompha jurassicella

(Frey, 1881)890 / 40.006

General comments:

The late John Bradley, whose playground was Osterley Park, described Mompha subdivisella as a new species in 1951 (Bradley, 1951), but it was subsequently shown by others that this was in fact jurassicella - a species already described by Frey in 1881 from Europe.

It is fairly widespread, if local, in our two counties. The larva feeds internally in the stems of Epilobium hirsutum, making a gallery up to 25cms in length.

Recorded in 13 (32%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1989.
