General comments:
Widespread but surprisingly local.

The foodplant is scarce, but where it grows the moth is likely to be found. The caterpillar feeds on the seeds at first then later burrows into the upper stem where it hibernates before pupating in the spring. Hemlock stems brought indoors in the spring may well yield adult moths in due course.
