Local and scarce.

North-east Middlesex is the place to go to see this striking moth at rest on ragwort flowers in the appropriate season. Elsewhere it is thinly spread and decidedly local. The species is probably threatened by ragwort control: Although ragwort regenerates from seed the rootstock is destroyed before larval development is completed. Long-established areas of ragwort are more likely to generate this species than are new sites, but much searching has mostly failed to find it and so we must assume that its scarcity is genuine.
