General comments

Widespread and common resident. Though recorded on several occasions in the nineteenth century (Sandridge, Hitchin, Northwood, Rickmansworth and Cheshunt are listed in Foster, 1937) this moth seems to have become scarce during the first sixty or seventy years of the twentieth. It extended its range again from the mid-1980s onwards and is now found in most places.
