Epiphyas postvittana

(Walker, 1863)998 / 49.039

General comments:

Ubiquitous and numerically abundant.
A native of Australia this alleged pest of apple trees was first found in Britain in Cornwall, during 1936, where it remained for many years. In the early 1980s it started to spread and in 1983 was recorded for the first time in both Kent and Essex. It arrived in Middlesex in 1985 at the Natural History Museum's Wildlife Garden and the next year, 1986, in Ray Softly's third floor balcony trap at Parliament Hill (Hampstead area). The first Hertfordshire records were from Rickmansworth in 2001. In 2002 it reached the Royston area of North Hertfordshire. In 2023 it is unlikely that any map tetrad in either county will not support this species, which is active as an adult in every month of the year.

Recorded in 35 (85%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1989.
Last Recorded in 2024.
