General comments:
Widespread but local resident.

This species was once confined, in the south-east, to the Thames Estuary area. The earliest Middlesex record is from Highgate Wood, where it was noted in 1998 and the next few years. The first Hertfordshire record was at Bishops Stortford in 1987, but six years elapsed before the next, on 6th June 1993 in a different part of the same town. It was noted in Bishops Stortford over most of the following years, but the first record away from here was that of larvae at Therfield (= Royston) Heath on 9th October 1999. There was a sudden appearance at many new sites across the area from the early 2000s onwards and it is currently found, albeit locally, across both county areas.
