General comments:
Very local resident.

Confusion is possible with Southern Wainscot; beginners should have specimens verified. In Foster's 1937 Hertfordshire list, there was just one county record (Wilstone Reservoir, 'larvae common in September'). The species persists here in 2022, though there are rather few records. A female at light in Totteridge on 6th July 1969 was the only one there from 1954 to 1980 (Ian Lorimer) and so probably a vagrant from elsewhere; but this site was a garden - not a wetland. These older reports suggest a rare moth - but then almost nobody was at that period recording moths in wetlands. The spread of current records suggests strongly that the species has always been in our area, at what we perceive to be low density but which in reality has probably been a perfect balance. It is probably under-recorded in some parts of our area.
