Epermenia insecurella
Chalk Hill Ridge-back

(Stainton, 1849)482 / 47.003
=Chalk-hill Lance-wing

General comments
Extremely local resident. Vulnerable.

The only site known to support this moth in Hertfordshire is Church Hill at Therfield Heath. Adults are said to fly in afternoon sunshine in May/June and then July/August. It is a nationally rare species of chalk downland and is often absent from areas where the foodplant is frequent. "Updating" this species at Church Hill, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and mapping the areas where it survives should be amongst the highest conservation priorities within the county. The site is managed at present for a specific floral interest and it is unclear how this management fits with the conservation requirements of the moth. There are no Middlesex records.
