Blastobasis adustella

Walsingham, 1894873 / 41.002
=Blastobasis lignea

General comments:
Probably ubiquitous.

The geographical origin of the British population is unclear. It was found in Ireland in 1902 and Lancashire in 1917 (Agassiz, 1996). It did not reach the south-east until later, but by the 1970s appears to have become well-established there. The first Hertfordshire record was at Borehamwood in 1966 (Eric Bradford), but a lack of active moth recorders in the county in the 1960s, 1970s an early 1980s means that we are not able to understand the speed or direction of its spread.

In several books it is referred to as Blastobasis lignea - incorrectly so as that speces is not found in Britain.

Recorded in 36 (88%) of 41 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1942.
Last Recorded in 2023.
