(Allen, 1906) 1796 / 70.108

General comments:
Widespread but local resident.

Although evidently local in distribution, this moth can be as numerically abundant as the November Moth, with several hundreds in moth traps or flying in country lanes at dusk. Separation from November and Autumnal Moths requires examination of the tip of the male abdomen, which can be done on live moths. Records where this has not been done were rejected. It is usually the most numerous of the three species in birch woodlands.
